Author's Note, Part II

I know that a lot of you have been anxious for this story to start. Honestly, I've debated on whether or not I wanted to go through with writing this story, even though I had promised to write it—and I like to keep my promises.

I want to be able to proud of the stories I write, so I put a lot of work and time into them. When people don't comment, I feel like that effort becomes wasted. And I'm not someone who's going to whine and moan about it, because every other story I've written has been something that I wanted to do. They have all been projects that I used to try and develop as a writer. But I'll admit it's discouraging to be so proud of a story when it feels like no one's reading it.

However, this is a story just for fun, written for all the people who begged and asked for NWW to keep going. I'm going to write it when I have spare time, instead of devoting my time to it. I have a bigger project in mind which will command the majority of my attention, so this will be what I write when I need a break from that. I plan on posting an update at least once a week. If I know some of you as well as I think I do, this may disappoint you because that's not what you were expecting. And if that's the case, I'm sorry.

Now that that's all said and done, I do have plans for this story. I have a basic plot line all figured out for Sid and Nelly, and I have the first post and a half already written, and the first post is scheduled to go up tomorrow at seven. However, if there's any suggestions you have or things you'd like to see, let me know and I'll do by best to work it into the story. It'll make things easier on me to write if I don't have to plan out all the details myself. This is a story for you, so this is your chance to give your input.

If none of that has put you off, I'll see you tomorrow at seven.

~Jay

  2. Thanks for letting me know how excited you are for this, Meaghan. But my other project will be a completely fictional story written in hopes that it will get legitimately published someday, so I won't be posting it online.

  5. I love all your stories and I can't wait to read this one. All of them are great and you're an amazing writer. I know how discouraging it can be sometimes to work so hard on a fifteen page chapter and get 3 comments. But I always tell myself to keep my chin up and just keep writing. The reviews come! Thanks for all of your incredible stories and I'm excited for this one too, even if it's just for fun ;)

  7. Jay,

I am so glad that you're working on a, for lack of a better word, "novel." I love your writing and I think you have a pretty decent shot at publishing a book someday soon. It helps me, too, because I'm working on a few fictional pieces for novels as well, and it's nice to know that someone else out there on Blogger is doing just the same thing.

I also get discouraged when the comments are few and far between. I try to tell myself that it won't matter because if I ever get published, I'll have thousands of admiring fans. Delusional? Maybe a little. But it helps as motivation when writing.

When (I'm not saying "if," because I know it'll happen) you publish your book, be sure to let me know and I'll be first in line at Barnes & Noble to buy it.

Thanks for sharing some of your writing with us. I can't wait for more.

  8. Sid scoring a goal, you writing NWW sequel... Life couldn't be better!

An I'm so happy to hear that you're finally taking a shot writing a novel. You're a great author, Jay. Like a violinist, you know how to play the words. So, show them how much you're talented, girl!

And I'm always there for you, my offer is still on... My "French" is yours...

  9. Write on! Get it, huh, huh?

Dumb jokes aside, I think that comments are the motivation that keeps writers going. Once someone commented that they couldn't be as witty as the other commenters, but just a quick "loved it" or "Great update" can make the difference to whether a writer finishes up the next post or even finishes a story. I know it's something that I think about when considering whether to start a new story.

So if you read, comment. That's all you have to pay for a great story. Unless you're in the line up at Barnes and Noble sometime in the future!
